A Passion for Porridge

I could eat oatmeal for breakfast every day of the week for a whole year and never get sick of it. How? I could probably make it a different way every day for that year!

It can be eaten hot or cold and can likely be made into something edible with anything and everything that is in your kitchen right now!

All it takes is 1.5 minutes in the microwave with your liquid of choice and enough time to arrange your toppings in an insta-worthy manner. Seriously, it will take you longer to take a satisfying picture of your bowl than it will to prepare it.

This is a popular breakfast of choice for me because quick oats cost a few cents and it is a filling and nutritious way to start the day.

Here are some easy hot oatmeal recipes:

TIP: I usually use 1/3 cup of dry oats and 3/4 cup liquid (water or any type of milk/alternative – fortified soy beverages are a favourite of mine).

1. Peanut Butter, Cinnamon & Almonds


-1 tbsp PB

-1 tsp cinnamon

-1 tbsp chopped almonds


2. Banana Pecan


-1 tbsp pecans

-1 banana

-1 tsp vanilla extract

-1 tsp cinnamon

-1 tbsp brown sugar


3. PB & J


– 1 tbsp PB

-1/2 tbsp raspberry jam


4. Blueberry Cheesecake


– 1/4 cup blueberries

-1 tbsp cream cheese

-1/4 tsp cinnamon

-1/4 tsp vanilla extract
