Smoothies are a perfect breakfast for busy mornings. They are perfect to make ahead of time and grab on the way out the door, while ensuring you have a well balanced meal (because I know that’s your top priority when choosing what to have first thing in the morning).
No doubt you’re getting your servings of fruit in, but did you think about throwing in a serving or two of veggies? It’s so easy to do and, with adjustments to the ratios, you can’t even taste it! I don’t see any reason not to do it. You know it would make your mother proud.
Personally, I love the “green” taste, so these recipes might not be for everyone, but I DO suggest you try them. If anything, throw a handful of greens into your usual morning mix!
If you’re cringing at the thought of a vegetable in your smoothie, you can adjust the ratio to half the amount of greens. I’m a HUGE spinach person, so I used that for both, but feel free to substitute it for another green like kale.

1. Peanut Butter and Banana– 1 cup almond milk
– 1/2 cup spinach
– 1/2 banana
– 1 tbsp peanut butter
This one is a go-to. You guys definitely know by now that peanut-butter and banana are a power duo for me. I definitely recommend trying this one out first. Swapping the almond milk for chocolate almond milk makes this one a perfect treat!
Tip: adding a scoop of chocolate protein powder makes this one perfect for before/after your morning workout.
2. Cinnamon Banana (Juice?)
– 1 cup coconut water
-1 cup spinach leaves
-1 tsp cinnamon
I’m reluctant to call this a smoothie because it has more of a juice-like consistency. Without any yogurt or milk, the “green” definitely stands out a lot more than the “smoothie”. Whenever I make this I swear I can just feel my health improving (is that a thing?). I’m terrible at describing flavours, but I will say that the cinnamon is definitely prominent in this one. Like anything, though, the amount of each ingredient for flavour can be altered to suit your taste. Fool around with it! Add a whole banana and less cinnamon. This one is definitely not for everyone, but I certainly love it!
